There is nothing more rewarding than hearing about a woman injecting a positive entrepreneurship role within her local community. This tale displays the reason why I love Ottawa; take one creative hardworking person, combined with the willingness to help make a difference, and this is the epitome of our city.

This particular entrepreneur is outwardly hard working, warm-hearted, and graciously humble, yet at the same time a community-centric influential lady. All of these traits make it easy to understand why Carolynn Lacasse is the perfect fit for the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation’s committee, there she takes on the role of ‘Bust A Move Leadership Member’ which makes her responsible for numerous charity event planning. For Carolynn, partnering with the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation came to actualization while working with the St.Laurent Shopping Centre as a consultant to help develop their digital and social media presence. By working with St.Laurent Centre, Carolynn grew close with Bernice Rachkowski (Director of Marketing for St.Laurent Centre), who then extended the possibility of Carolynn’s involvement with the ORCF. Despite Carolynn’s many other endeavors, including the full time position as the Director of Marketing at Source Metrics, and the Director and Founder of the Ottawa Foodie Challenge, she still graciously accepted the opportunity to once again give back to her community. The ORCF was added to her labours of love list.

Perhaps the most admirable of Carolynn’s creations, the ‘Courage’ brand, designed and made for the ORCF. Courage is a brand of bracelets individually made by Carolynn herself. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the Courage bracelets go to the ORCF creating the opportunity for the foundation to generate more awareness, and also provides a way to produce more funding for cancer research, as well as after care centers such as our Ottawa based Maplesoft Centre. The materials for the bracelets are donated by Sassy Beads in the ByWard Market, and thereafter, the designing and hand-making process begins. Once the bracelets are ready they are then housed and sold at Viens avec Moi on Wellington St. West, in the Westboro community, as well as on Carolynn’s website, and through the ORCF website.

Courage has become a project for Carolynn to not only showcase her creativity and strengths, but to also partake in a cause that is close to her heart, as she has been exposed to the affects cancer has on the ones closest to her. With the love and support of not only her friends but the ORCF, Courage has truly become a way to make a difference. I personally believe the Courage story is an admirable platform of inspiration for any individual to become motivated to partake in making a difference to a cause closest to them.
