Combining things that I’m passionate about with a great cause is maybe one of my favourite things to do. There is literally no better feeling than to work on a project that you’re inspired by and it’s dividends benefit causes that are right here in our community. I’ve been working with the Ottawa School of Art for a couple of months on a ‘fashion’ fueled fundraiser that we named; the Closet Collective. We’re taking over one of the studios at The OSA and turning into a ladies’ store for one night. What I’m most excited about is that the fundraiser is that it supports THREE local initiatives. First the proceeds from the store are going directly to supporting The Ottawa School of Art and their programming that helps 3000 students annually as well as their outreach program which offers art classes to at-risk children and youth throughout the city of Ottawa at no cost. Then the surplus of clothing from the sale is being distributed to Dress for Success and St Joe’s Women’s Centre.
Together we’ve called upon local ladies to donate clothes to the sale, and we have 800+ pieces that go onto hangers on November 21st. Like an art show, we needed stylish curators to comb through our donations. We hand selected 14 of our personal local style inspirations- the types of girls whose closet I’d KILL to raid, to help make sense of all the goodies we collected. And lucky for us they also donated from their very own closets! Thanks to the donated photography of Zac Pantalone, we were able to shoot a lookbook of the items we have for sale featuring our “curators”, so make sure to check out the gallery at the top of this post to see how these gals styled their outfits!
What can you expect for the night of the clothings sale? Well a $25 donation you’ll receive a glass of bubbly and a bag for you to fill up to the brim with items that catch your eye! We’re fully stocked in gorgeous items ranging from cocktail dresses, blazers, pants, hats, purses and more! There’s also a silent auction with goodies from H&M, Twiss + Webber, The Drake General Store and other amazing brands.
Thanks so amazing supporters like Billings Bridge who has donated hangers + some tasty treats, we are able to pass on the proceeds of your ticket as a direct donation to the OSA. Tickets are on sale for the clothing sale on the OSA website here: http://artottawa.ca/closetcollective/ See you there gals!
